The fiber has a hollow core and a cladding including high air content surrounded by cladding of silica, other vitreous or polymeric material. Liquid having a certain refraction index fills the core and liquid having different refraction index fills cladding holes. The cladding holes are alternatively filled with a material selected from sol-gel and a polymer. The cladding holes in an end are blocked by electric arc generated by a fiber fusion splicer, and a central hole on another end is blocked by polymer introduced into the core.
ADVANTAGE – The fiber allows the total internal reflection of the light and full superposition/interaction between the liquid and radiation, provides a long interaction length, and reduces the number of guided modes in the liquid-core fiber, thus reducing the weight and cost of the fiber.
